San Miguel Beach is about 7 miles long. Excellent walking beach early in the morning or at sunset when the whole horizon becomes a light show of brilliant orange and red. San Miguel Beach is known by nature enthusiasts world wide due to the remarkable population of sea turtles who lay their eggs in the sand. The turtles continue to return to San Miguel beach because their environment is strongly protected by the local authorities. It's truly amazing to see these pre-historic warriors 'do their thing' and to know we are sharing the pristine beauty of San Miguel with them. San Miguel is not a 'popular' beach for sun bathers. You'll find most of those types up in Tamarindo and further south in Playa Coyote. During high season 30-40 people is the most you'll see on the beach at any time. The water is crystal clean, the sunsets are heavenly and the hammocks under the palms are FREE! To have a beach like San Miguel walking distance away is a dream come true.
